Willie Jon Hicks, Just Part of his Story...

Willie Jon Hicks – Singer, Songwriter, Storyteller

Born in 1969 in Pensacola, Florida, Willie Jon Hicks has a story unlike most. Music wasn’t always his path, but life’s twists and trials led him to discover his voice and his passion.

Twenty-five years ago, Willie picked up a guitar for the first time—not in a studio or on a stage or even at his home, but in a place where time moves slow. He found peace in songwriting, turning pain into poetry and struggle into sound. Music became more than an escape; it became his way of telling the truth.  He began to teach himself cords and after a while starting writing songs. He did several music events and sang a few songs in the chapel. After he got home most of his time was spent on working, trying to get his life together and spending time with his 3 kids, Elizabeth, Billy and Stephen. So not much time for music anymore, but in November of 2024 Willie reached out to Red Ridge Entertainment in Nashville Tennessee who started recording his music. Thanks to Gary Sadker and Jackson Harris with Red Ridge Entertainment, Willie is on the right path with his music career.

Now, later in life, Willie is stepping fully into his music career, proving that it’s never too late to chase your dreams. He believes his music—his stories, his songs, and his voice—can inspire others, helping them navigate their own journeys. His lyrics are real, raw, and full of heart, speaking to those who’ve faced hardship and reminding them that hope is never lost.

Through the years, Willie has written songs that reflect his journey, his beliefs, and his heart. “The Luckiest Man” is a testament to him finding the right woman to spend the rest of their life together. “The Big House” tells the raw story of time behind bars, and “Red-Blooded American” captures the spirit of hard-working, freedom-loving people. Each song comes from a place of truth, drawn from real-life experiences and emotions. His brand new release “One ride around the sun” reminds us how short life is and how we need to hug a little tighter and love a little longer. One ride arounfd the sun is currently streaming everywhere.

A lifelong fan of Johnny Cash, Willie has found deep inspiration in the Man in Black’s music and storytelling. Much like Cash, Willie believes in singing from the soul—songs that speak to struggle, redemption, and the human condition. Covering Johnny Cash’s songs has been an honor, keeping the spirit of his music alive while adding his own voice to the tradition. At the heart of everything he does, Willie is a Christian who gives all honor and glory to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He believes that God carried him through the darkest times and has given him this new purpose: to share his music and testimony with the world.

From his first chord to his latest song, Willie Jon Hicks is proof that music can be born in the darkest places and still shine bright. His songs tell a story—his story—and through faith, perseverance, and the grace of God, he’s just getting started.
